CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Dustin Brooks
Character Canon: Power Rangers Ninja Storm

History: http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Dustin_Brooks

AU History:  Dustin is from Union, born from a Ranger mother and Engineer father. He grew up with his two friends Tori and Shane wanting to be just like his dad because his idolized him. However, Dustin lacked the focus to become an engineer his teachers claimed and refused him entry. Things got even worse for him when his parents quietly separated and divorced at age 10, which was around when his life changed. So a friend of the family Kelly Holloway and her family taught him how to care for Pokémon and to someday eventually become a Pokémon caretaker. At first unsure about not following his dad, he eventually and rather  quickly warmed to the idea when he encountered a young female Pancham during one of his jobs who warmed him to both the idea of being a caretaker and an Enlightened. He currently repairing the damage from Habitat from the injured pokemon by healing them.

Kelly's family encouraged this behavior a little too much in the young care taker throughout  the years, but it's like Dustin always says: sometimes you have to trust people.

Canon Personality: To put Dustin's personality bluntly, he's a people person. Overly cheerful, he's as friendly as someone can be saving the world. He is the "comic book geek" of the Wind Rangers, and was a fan of previous Rangers, who were considered urban legend, visible when they are first given morphers and he is the first to morph and (in turn) show Shane and Tori how to morph. He is somewhat naive and gullible as he has been used by one of Lothor's nieces Marah, but still retains his good natured outlook on life. Dustin has a bit of sympathy for Marah as they are both over looked by their colleagues and consider stupid by the others. Dustin actually will try to cheer up anyone down in the dumps, even if that person happens to be an enemy. He is very close to fellow Rangers Tori and Shane, having been childhood friends with both of them. Despite this, others tend to look down on him being a complete goofball and even a fool as stated by the Rangers' enemy Lothor. Dustin takes everything in stride however, and very few things bother him for very long. What he lacks in perspective or smarts, he makes up for it in heart. Dustin believes that most people are generally good and trustworthy, even if their previous actions might have you look otherwise he feels that there's good in almost everyone.

However if his trust is betrayed, Dustin has a tendancy to second guess himself particularly if his friends tend to doubt him. He also is very close to his father Jake, claiming that he taught him everything he knows about racing and motorcross. He also doesn't see anything wrong with using his own powers with helping non-Ranger friends such as his boss Kelly when they are in trouble. He firmly believes that his greatest ninja skill is his instinct. His bad side tends to rub off on the fact that he can be too trusting, which can backfire on him. He also likely has a problem with people never taking him seriously, but at his heart he's a kind hearted person who just tries to do the right thing.

Dustin even though most onlookers consider him too flakey or irresponsible to be dependable for anything, particularly as a Ranger he has the utmost faith in himself and the people who know him. Confidant without being cocky most times, Dustin is the kind of guy who's easy to warm up to. He describes himself as the 'mellow reflective dude' in the opening episode and even when faced with trouble or seeing someone else in trouble he's the first to help others no matter if it's a friend or a stranger regardless of the consequences. This can backfire on him frequently and often does as once Dustin stopped to help a passing couple with their car despite being told if they(Dustin, Tori and Shane) were late once more they'd be expelled from the Ninja Academy.

Because of Dustin's seemingly lack of responsibility his fellow Ninja Storm Rangers tend to treat at arms length sometimes because he tends to trust those he should not be trusted. However Dustin always tries to do the right things, even if he can be very spontaneous and doesn't use his mind at first glance he will stick by his friends and those he cares for quite a long time.

Even though Dustin is quite aware of the way he trusts people, (example: he gives his motorbike to someone who could fix it up and when he can't find him still refuses to admit he could have been lied to) his friends tell him he shouldn't be so trusting to a complete stranger. Even going so far to tell him to stop trusting everyone he sees. Even in the first episode 'Prelude to a Storm', his friend Shane says Dustin should stop helping people and try to get to class. Or they would get in big trouble. He typically pushes the thoughts of not helping or trusting aside: at his basic he just has to trust people and feels that his greatest skill is his instinct in trusting people.

From what I've seen out of all of his teammates, he finds the hardest to relate to is Cam. Blue and Red Rangers Tori and Shane are childhood friends with Dustin and he has similar interests with the Thunder Rangers as all three of them are into motorcross. But Cam in the beginning of series thinks of nothing good abut Dustin, in Cam's words: he's lazy, late to class all the time, thinks Dustin would goof off rather work. When Dustin actually tries to show that he's not a goof, because at the time the CD entrusted to Dustin by Cam to improve their motorcycles (called Tsunami Cycles) were later stolen by the (then) Lothor-aligned Thunder Rangers.

Dustin wants to be respected and in fact he was the only Ranger brave enough to say to their sensei that he's wrong in not letting Cam be a Ranger in the beginning. (Dustin called his sensei's side of the argument 'weak' while Sensei didn't agree with it, he appreciated Dustin's honesty.)

As stated above, his chief interests or hobbies are that the relates to his natural talents such as the extreme sport of motorcross. Essentially a sport that requires him to be both quick to react to situations and more to rely on his instincts as a racer. Though he appears to have knowledge of both sides of the sport, he excels more on the racing side of the sport rather than the freestyle trick side as seen as seen in on of the last episodes of Ninja Storm. His teammate Blake even offhandedly mentions that originally Dustin didn't want to do freestyle because Dustin had said previously he didn't want to get hurt for race season. At first he did argue about doing both styles, but eventually gave up his race career to begin a freestyle career. He also claims that all of his racing skills were learned from his dad who taught him everything he knows about the sport. The how isn't explained much, but it could be assumed that Dustin's father was a racer when he was young.

He also has passing knowledge of comic books and presumably of the existence of the Power Rangers as a whole. Most likely DC comics exists in some form as Ninja Storm's sequel series Dino Thunder mentions both Batman and Superman, and there apparently is some kind of comic based on Power Rangers if an offhand remark from his teammate Tori means anything.

When last thing to discuss is the subject of morality the way Dustin sees things. Dustin for the most part sees things in black and white for the most part, with the occasional grey thing coming to mind as he's also a ninja as well as a Ranger. He doesn't deal well with betrayal, murder, and other awful things as he sees them as evil. Loyalty, honor, bravery, these all are virtues for Dustin to follow proudly in his opinion.

When he is forced to make a hard moral decision, Dustin would listen to both sides before deciding. He would make the decision based on his instincts and gut and would follow through usually believing that all people have the capacity for good. Even if making the choice is hard, maybe even unpopular, or borderline stupid, Dustin would stick with trusting people over not trusting them. For instance, if he was put into a command role for some reason then he would try not to do more damage than necessary to anyone and would avoid to kill anyone unless forced to in the beginning. He would not needlessly risk his crewmates lives and would do almost anything to protect them. Because teammates are family. He also wouldn't ally with anyone purposely 'evil' like a serial murderer and similar morally bankrupt people.

AU Deviation: Since Dustin does not become a Power Ranger (like in canon) and never proves himself to the equal of other Engineers and Rangers, he instead is a Caretaker raising other pokemon and being a more introspective and caring person which doesn't change his personality too much but he has not become more action oriented like in his canon series so far.

Canon Abilities: Dustin has a few powers of note. He has been trained at the Wind Ninja Academy to have earth-based powers, primarily the ability to travel and attack underground as well as to shoot yellow energy from his hands. (which is concentrated Earth power, as far as I can tell) The latter ability doesn't appear to be too destructive as a fellow Ranger (or anyone with powers really) can easily counter it as it's not exactly subtle. However, to a non-powered person this attack can extremely painful, likely capable of broken bones at the very least.

Dustin, like all ninja academy students has a power called 'Ninja Streak' which allows him to move at blinding speeds alibeit in the form of a yellow streak across the landscape. It is a form of travel not a combat power, and he is able to do said power in and out of Ranger form. His primary ability is to transform into the Yellow Wind Ranger by saying 'Ninja Storm, Ranger form' and in that form he can trigger earthquakes with his Lion Hammer, split into two fighters, and even travel and attack underground. To activate his Ranger powers he raises his Wind Morpher to the sky, says the above words and is transformed. The device is mostly gold and black colored, with his yellow Power Disc which has the insignia of the lion. The suit can be removed by saying 'power down' which reverts him to civilain clothes, or 'ninja form' which reverts Dustin to his ninja clothes. He also has a hang glider in yellow that he can summon in his Ranger form.

Now to limit these powers: His speed would be during a ninja streak would be considerably slower on the land, as well as he couldn't use it against another player's character without permission. He also wouldn't be able to use this power on the water. I don't believe the other powers need to be cut down. If they do please let me know mods.

As stated earlier Dustin is a Earth Ninja from the Wind Ninja Academy located secretly in Blue Bay Harbor, California. He has the ability to travel underground without transforming and can trigger minor earthquakes as well in a small area near him.

He is also well adverse in the extreme sport motorcross, from being his own mechanic to noting rather famous people in the sport. And of course he has a giant robot lion zord.
Enlightened Abilities: Ground/Fighting

Master of Training perk.

Dustin will begin with Double Team (the closest move to the three rangers in one  ninja trick), a hammer with Ground Type, and Mach Punch.

Second form is a more armored version of himself with his hammer much larger, able to trigger Drill Run with his bigger hammer and use attacks like Brick Break and Force Palm. His size appearance remains the same through this.

The last and final form requires Dustin's hammer being so large it requires both hands to wield it. Dustin is able to use Earthquake And High Jump Kick as his go to moves.  Most of how Dustin's physical strength comes from the hammer, it is the key to his evolutions.

Starter Pokémon: Kelly the Pancham from the breeding center and the Old city common is Kapri the Purrloin.

Notes/Special Considerations: If you have special things you want to do with your character that can potentially impact the plot such as giving them an ancient power from a clan thought long extinct, this is the place to put it. It's suggested that you contact the moderators beforehand to hash things out if you want to do anything dramatic. You may also PM or IM one of the moderators beforehand if you wish to get the section pre-approved or ask questions on what is and is not allowed.

SAMPLES
(NOTE: You may link a previous entry or thread, including testrun or musebox threads (but NOT Dear Mun), for one or both samples. However, we want to see the character in the setting of Brave New World and specifically in their AU for at least one sample.)

First-Person:  Greetings dudes, I'm Dustin Brooks, one of the Caretakers of the Habitat. So, I'm here to talk to Union about this whole mess we've been having and if your Pokémon are injured you should get them over here so I or someone else could check them out. Anyway, you'll know me when you see the blonde guy in the yellow shirt with a Pancham named Kelly and a Purrloin named Kapri.  Maybe, Kapri doesn't like a lot of people dudes. I'm not going to say the stereotype about Dark types because that's wrong. I hope you guys visit the Habitat and stay safe out there, I will too! See ya!

Third-Person: (This is written in prose from an independent narrator’s perspective. Here we want to see an insight into your character’s unspoken behavior -- actions, thoughts, their view of their world, etc. The minimum here is two paragraphs. If we do not get a good sense of your character’s behavior, we will ask for more. If you link an outside entry or thread, the minimum is 20 comments from your character in two threads/with two characters.)

If desired, you may answer some of the following questions in lieu of samples. The questions must be answered in-character, as if they are being asked by a teacher, mentor, or superior. If your character is lying in their answer, please identify it as a lie. The purpose of these is to get an idea of how you will play your character in lieu of the other sample options. 4 questions answered can be used as a substitute for a first-person sample, and 6 questions answered can be used as a substitute for a third-person sample. Both samples may be replaced in this manner. If the character doesn't say enough in their answer, we may request a few more answers for an acceptable sample.

• What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
Dude, obviously my friends and partners. What else would they be? Seems pretty simple to me.

• What do you feel your role in your city is?
• What do you seek for humanity’s future?
• To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
I would never give up if one of my friends was lost, no matter what. No matter whether they were Pokémon or human. I would search endlessly and try to get others if I could to help me man, so than I can rescue my buds.

• What would you say the most important occupation is within your city?
Difficult to say dude, there are lots of important jobs in Union. We need Delvers to bring materials for Engineers to use to create stuff with, Rangers police the wilderness, and my job as a Caretaker takes care of the Pokémon in the city. So I don't think there is a single most important job. Every job is important. Whether you are a Ranger or a Researcher everything is important.

• What does the story of the Savior mean to you?
Seems like they were pretty awesome in there own right, I mean protecting us all? Pretty gutsy. I just think they were an awesome person worth remembering.

• What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
Fun, honorable and knows how to take a joke, because seriously dudes things have really terrible recently and we need a break from all the bad stuff.

• What do you look for in the Pokémon with whom you bond?
If you're talking about types dude, I have no preference. There was some Pokémon who I've always wanted to bonded with but other than that... I love most Pokémon if not all Pokémon. I do like some types more than others though.

• What do you think your Pokémon respect most about you?
I guess it's the fact I'm pretty caring, mellow, and reflective guy, so Kelly and Kapri trust me. Kapri less so, but I'm working on her!

• The gods of old have returned. How would you be judged if you were chosen as a representative of humanity?
• A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
First I would  try to stop the human and Pokémon from fighting if at all possible, because hasn't there been enough? I would try to find out what started this and try to make some peace between the two.

• You are alone and bereft of your Pokémon allies; upon what strengths do you rely on to see yourself safely home?
• What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?
• You plunge into the depths of ruins of an ancient civilization. What is it that you seek from the past? Treasure, technology, wisdom?
• When encountering a rare and powerful Pokémon, what is most important? Researching it, bonding with it, or defeating it? Why?
• What do you do to ensure we never again awaken the wrath of the gods upon humanity?
• What strengths make you most qualified for your role within your city?
• In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable?
Murder of anything, human or Pokémon. Hands down. Or similar acts.

• No Enlightened chooses their abilities - and not all are Enlightened. What type abilities would you most desire to manifest and why?
• What area do you seek to explore? The peaceful forest, in search of new, previously overlooked discoveries; the uncharted caves, in search of the unknown; or the wildest of mountain terrain, in search of danger, adventure, and thrills?
